Recently we have built two new buildings on our sites in Romblon and Sorsogon plus we are in the process of totally renovating our boys’ home in Sorsogon.
The buildings include offices, staff room, guest rooms, isolation and counselling rooms, playrooms, kitchen, dining rooms and ten more bedrooms. This will accommodate up to sixty more children! We decided on this project as, once again, we were full at both homes. Social Services are referring many more children to us, especially children who have suffered sexual and physical abuse.
On arrival, every child is fully assessed and a plan is made for their precious life. They will then either be reunited with their family or extended family. If this is not possible, we will begin the process of legal adoption; both local and international.
It has been amazing to see the level of support we have had for these projects, both buildings, including all chattels, have been fully paid for by so many generous people! We are so incredibly grateful.
But… now that we have the homes and can accept more children, we need more staff in every area, caregivers, social workers, cooks, cleaners and laundry worker. We also need to support the children’s daily needs, which include all medical, psychological, education, food, clothing, recreational, spiritual and legal costs.
Every child has their own unique story of how they come to be cared for by Ruel.
Miss S (10) is one of them. She recently arrived at Ruel Sorsogon and is so happy to be reunited with her brother and sister. There are four children in the family all with different fathers, and sadly their mother has mental health challenges. Miss A and Master C were often found wandering and sleeping on the streets, before coming to the safety of Ruel. Miss S was staying with an aunt but it was discovered that she was being mentally and physically abused. An older sibling is with an uncle but their whereabouts are unknown. We are delighted to have these children safely together.
