Ten years. That’s how long I’ve been immersed in the world of business, always chasing the next breakthrough. But this year, I decided to pause and take a sabbatical. Not to travel the world or to find myself, but to give back in the most meaningful way I knew how—by taking care of babies at Calapan Children’s Home.
You might wonder, why babies? These aren’t just any babies. These are children born into circumstances beyond their control, in villages where parents struggle to provide even the most basic necessities. At Calapan, we nourish them back to health and reunite them with their families, offering them a fighting chance at life.
I’ve always believed in the ripple effect—that one small action can set off a chain of events with far-reaching impact. And let me tell you, the ripple effect is alive and well at Calapan. The home, established in 2006 by the Ruel Foundation, has been a sanctuary for 45-50 children, including a special section dedicated to malnourished children.
But it’s not just about the numbers. It’s about the stories. The smiles that slowly emerge as health returns. The laughter that fills the air. The eyes that light up at the sight of a familiar face. These are the moments that have left an indelible mark on my soul.
And let’s not forget the unsung heroes—the dedicated staff who work tirelessly, day in and day out, to make all of this possible. My one-month sabbatical was just a glimpse into the monumental effort they put in every single day.
So, as I return to the business world, I do so with a renewed sense of purpose and a heart full of gratitude. I encourage each and every one of you to consider how you can make your own ripple in the pond. Whether it’s through your time, your resources, or your voice—never underestimate the power of one.
